The story behind the ink.
About Velvet Paw Press
Velvet Paw Press began as a whisper in New York City, a half-formed dream between crowded shelves and too many cups of ink-black coffee. Now, it resides in Porto, Portugal, where the streets are paved with cobblestones and haunted by the ghosts of poets (or perhaps just the lingering scent of old paper). Here, in a sun-dappled but decidedly moody corner, we craft stationery for those who believe pets deserve their own dark academia subplot.
Every piece, from our Library Pet Adoption Certificates to our Paws & Prose Stickers, is made with the solemn conviction that your cat’s aesthetic should be as carefully curated as your personal library. We print on-demand, because mass production is dreadfully vulgar when one’s familiar has such exacting tastes.
About Lydia Vale
Lydia Vale (a nom de plume worn like a well-loved mourning brooch) is the artistic alias of Phoebe Sanna, a former New Yorker who absconded to Porto in pursuit of crumbling facades, affordable pastries, and a climate that permits year-round black attire. She is an artist, an incurable marginalia addict, and a woman who has, on more than one occasion, debated whether her cat’s literary preferences lean more toward Brontë or Poe.
Velvet Paw Press was born from two undeniable truths:
- The world lacked stationery for those who address their pets in iambic pentameter.
- Her feline overseer, Vigil, required a title befitting her station as Supreme Literary Overlord.
All text here is written by her (no ghostwriters, mechanical or otherwise, though Vigil occasionally contributes editorial notes via keyboard walks).
About Vigil, Our Spirited Shop Cat
Vigil (a nom de plume for our resident kitten, Genesis) is a seven-pound shadow with the demeanor of a 19th-century governess—stern, enigmatic, and prone to judging your life choices. While her government name suggests new beginnings, she prefers the dark academia gravitas of her professional alias.
As Creative Director, her duties are both vast and inscrutable:
Quality Assurance (testing paper weight by napping upon it)
Customer Relations (interrupting emails with urgent, paw-authored missives)
Product Development (assessing notebook durability via strategic corner-chewing)
Her official résumé lists “Professional Biscuit-Maker” and “Unsalaried Emotional Support Phantasm.”
(She does not grant interviews, but the real Genesis may be persuaded with chin scritches and the crinkle of a treat bag.)
